WILL'S STORY

Wilson Hyde “Will” Haney was born on July 29, 1976 and departed this life on January 8, 2011. His 34 years here were full of laughter, fun and a little mischief. He graduated from Athens High School in 1995 where he excelled in basketball, football and baseball. Will received a degree in History from the University of Alabama.

He then went on to complete Naval Officer Candidate School, serving our country in the US Navy aboard the USS George Washington. Ensign Haney served our country during the War on Terrorism and was an accomplished student pilot.

Living every day to its fullest was always important to Will as he was an avid runner with his Christian walk the main priority in his life. He valued worshipping at West Hobbs Street Church of Christ.

It was there that he met his wife, Emily, and the two were married on April 23, 2005 and began their lives on the farm they loved. Will always had a project going from fencing to farming to remodeling their little house. He loved nothing more than doing it himself.

Will's heart was always in nursing, and after being accepted into the Bachelors of Nursing program at Auburn University Montgomery he set out to achieve that goal. During his final year of the program, Will received a diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma, an extremely rare cancer found most often in children. He began traveling to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, in June of 2009.

Even through very aggressive chemotherapy treatments, Will continued to enjoy life on the farm, never complaining and amazingly, still living life to the fullest. Nineteen months and twenty four cycles of chemotherapy later, Will never lost faith in God's perfect plan.
